this is just to say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

--William Carlos Wiliams

For anyone familiar with this poem, the parody aspect of mine is clear. If Mrs. Williams had left this note, we probably would never have had her husband's poem.

If I understand your comment, polona, my poem may work even if you don't know the Wiliams poem.

Yeah, Josh, I know I was being naughty. The poem scored higher than I'd expected.

Thanks for the link, Angelika, and for your comment.

And, floots, before you eat that wheelbarrow full of plums, think of Angelika's warning.

The WCW poem was one of the first poems I learned to love in my youth! And I adore the red wheelbarrow...thanks for the reminder.

Thanks, T and QQ. Many haiku poets acknowledge a debt to Williams.
