I am honored to be included for the third year in a row in the Red Moon Anthology of English-Language Haiku. The poems chosen by Jim Kacian and the editors are
midwinter
the child is learning
subtraction

a stray dog
going my way
early spring
***
barefoot
the earth
pushes back

Hi Bill,
My reading could be very naive and raw...my appreciation and analysis work that way :)
1. Child learning subtraction:
A sign of progress -- after addition comes subtraction...but the learning never stops...especially when it goes into integration...
2. Stray dogs--
stray dogs evokes kindness in me, but never a pet dog..( clarified because Tikkis might wonder why I make opportunistic comments :))
3. Barefoot -- earth pushing back..
Mushy earth -- go bare foot only on hot sunny days...don't always take things for granted...you are 76 :)
(Not threatening; but shouldn't forget reality)

Devika, winter may be seen as a season of subtraction, as the leaves have disappeared from the trees, etc.

Readings of poem -- especially of Haiku -- can be had in many ways...

The first one is lovely, and I feel I can relate. Winter really is a time when more and more is taken away, but at least it makes us value what is left behind.
