"old moon," by the way, is a traditional English name for the full moon of January. It can also refer to the moon that appears as a waning crescent at the end of the lunar cycle, to be followed by – you guessed it - the new moon.; 9:19 AM

Bill said...: Thanks, Gillena. I was thinking of the second meaning of "old moon" as placing old age, decline, and death in a cyclical context: Held in the old is the promise of the new. But your "transition" is a welcome additional layer. The fact that, in our calendar, the "old moon" is the first full moon of the new year points in similar directions.; 1:11 PM
