The assigned kigo/keyword was "shadow," which may clear up some of the mystery. The literal notion is that a night journey, or a journey that has extended into the night, has come to an end. At night, the shadow disappears – as it may seem, into the darkness. Now, at journey's end, I leave my shadow in the darkness.

Beyond that, I intend a metaphorical range as broad and deep as your imagination can manage. And I know you guys have imaginations that are broad and deep.

Thanks for the comments, Frank, Juliet, and Gillena.

It is not necessary that the day ends to make one's shadow disappears in the night.

Thanks for the comment, Daniele. "journey's end" is not "la fin de la journee."
